What It Is
Your own biology, concentrated
A small sample of blood is drawn at the start of your appointment and placed in a centrifuge. Spinning separates the components, concentrating the platelets and the growth factors they carry. That concentrate is then applied to the skin after microneedling, or injected into specific areas.
Platelet-rich fibrin, or PRF, is a related preparation made without anticoagulant and spun at a lower speed. It produces a thicker concentrate that releases more slowly. Which of the two your practitioner uses depends on the area being treated and what it is being asked to do.
You may know it as a vampire facial. That is the same treatment under a name the media gave it. Nothing about it is more dramatic than a blood draw followed by a microneedling pass.
What It Treats
Concerns PRP is used for
Skin quality rather than volume. If you are looking to change the shape of something, this is not the treatment.
One of the most requested uses. Thin under-eye skin responds to treatment that thickens and conditions rather than fills.
Texture, tone and resilience across the face, particularly where skin has thinned with age.
Usually combined with microneedling, where the platelets support the remodelling the needling has started.
Early lines soften as collagen support improves. This is gradual work rather than an immediate smoothing effect.
Skin that has stopped responding to topical treatment often responds to something working from the inside.
Treated separately through scalp PRP, which uses the same preparation injected into the scalp.
Individual results vary and depend on your own platelet quality, age and general health. PRP is not a treatment with guaranteed outcomes, and we will be straight with you about that at the assessment.
Your Appointment
How a PRP session works
Your practitioner confirms the plan and takes a small blood sample, in the same way as a routine blood test. This is the part people worry about and it is over in a minute.
The sample is spun in-clinic to separate and concentrate the platelets. You wait in the room while this happens.
The concentrate is applied after a microneedling pass, or injected into the areas being treated. Topical numbing is used where appropriate.
Barrier support and SPF, plus written aftercare for the next 48 hours and an honest interval before your next session.

Before you book
- Eat and drink normally beforehand. Being hydrated makes the draw easier
- Tell us about blood thinners, anticoagulants and any clotting condition
- Expect redness on the day and possible bruising at injection points
- Most concerns do best across three sessions, four to six weeks apart
- Not suitable during active infection in the treatment area
- Deeper remodelling is available as RF microneedling with PRP

What is the difference between PRP and PRF?
Both come from your own blood. PRP is prepared with an anticoagulant and spun faster, producing a liquid concentrate. PRF is prepared without anticoagulant at a lower speed, producing a thicker concentrate that releases growth factors more slowly. Your practitioner chooses based on the area and the goal.
Is this the vampire facial?
Yes, that is the popular name for PRP applied after microneedling. The treatment itself is a blood draw, a centrifuge cycle and a microneedling pass. The name is more dramatic than the appointment.
How much does PRP cost?
$500 for a 30-minute session. Scalp PRP and RF microneedling with PRP are $799 each, and both are offered as a course of three for $1,999.
How many sessions do I need?
Three sessions spaced four to six weeks apart suits most concerns. Because PRP works by supporting your own repair processes, results build across the course rather than appearing after one visit.
Does it hurt?
The blood draw feels like a routine blood test. Topical numbing is used before microneedling or injection. Most clients describe the treatment as uncomfortable in places rather than painful.
What is the downtime?
Redness on the day, similar to mild sunburn, usually settling within 24 to 48 hours. Bruising is possible at injection points, particularly under the eyes. Plan at least a week before anything important.
Who performs the treatment?
PRP and PRF treatments are performed by a registered nurse under medical direction. Blood is drawn and processed in-clinic, and you are told exactly what is happening at each stage.
Is PRP safe?
Because the material comes from your own blood there is no risk of allergic reaction to a foreign substance. That said, it is a medical procedure with the usual risks of any injection, including bruising, swelling and infection. Your suitability is assessed before treatment, and certain blood and clotting conditions rule it out.
