What It Is

It relaxes movement, not your face

Botulinum toxin works by temporarily reducing the signal between nerve and muscle in the specific area it is placed. The muscle relaxes, and the lines that muscle creates soften. It does nothing to the skin itself, and it does nothing to the muscles you have not treated.

That is the whole mechanism, and understanding it explains most of what people get wrong about Botox. It works beautifully on lines caused by movement, such as a furrowed brow or crow's feet when you smile. It does very little for lines that are already etched into the skin at rest, and nothing at all for volume loss or texture.

A frozen face is a dosing decision, not an inevitability. Conservative placement keeps expression intact. If you want to still look surprised when you are surprised, say so, and the dose is planned around it.

Areas Treated

Where Botox is used

Each area needs a different number of units, which is why the total is only honest once your face has been assessed.

Forehead lines

The horizontal lines that appear when you raise your brows. Dosed carefully here, because too much drops the brow.

Frown lines

The vertical lines between the brows, often called the eleven. One of the most commonly treated areas and usually the most satisfying.

Crow's feet

The lines that fan from the outer corner of the eye when you smile. Softened rather than erased, so the smile still reads.

Bunny lines

The small creases across the bridge of the nose. Often treated alongside the frown area for a balanced result.

Lip flip

A small dose along the upper lip border, rolling the lip slightly outward without adding any volume.

Jaw and neck

Used for jaw clenching and for the vertical neck bands that show with age. Assessed individually.

Suitability for each area is decided at your assessment. Not every area is appropriate for every face, and you will be told which ones will not do what you are hoping.

The Cost Question

Why Botox is priced at consultation

Botox is charged by the unit. How many units you need depends on which areas are being treated, how strong the muscle is and how your face actually moves. Two people booking the same treatment can legitimately need very different amounts, and someone quoting a flat price online is either guessing or planning to underdose.

What we do instead is simple. Your face is assessed, the areas are agreed, and you are told the exact number before a needle is opened. If the figure is more than you expected, you can treat fewer areas or walk away. Nothing is administered until you have said yes to a price.

A rough guide for planning. Most people treating one area need a modest number of units; treating three areas at once costs proportionally more. Your first appointment sets the pattern, and repeat visits are easier to budget because the dose is already known.

What you get before you commit

  • A face-to-face assessment of the areas you want treated
  • An honest view on which areas will respond and which will not
  • The exact unit count and the total price, before treatment
  • The option to treat fewer areas, or none at all
  • A realistic answer on how long it will last for you
  • No pressure to add areas you did not come in for

If Botox is not the right treatment for the line you are worried about, we will say so. Static lines often need RF microneedling or filler instead.

Your Appointment

What the 30 minutes involves

01
Assessment

You are asked to move your face while your practitioner watches. Frown, raise your brows, smile. The dose is planned from how your muscles actually behave.

02
Agreement on price

Areas, unit count and total, confirmed before anything is prepared. This is where you decide, not afterwards.

03
The injections

A series of very fine injections into the mapped points. It takes a few minutes. Most people describe a brief pinch rather than pain.

04
Aftercare

Stay upright for four hours, avoid rubbing the area, and skip heavy exercise and saunas for the rest of the day.

The timeline afterwards. Nothing happens immediately. The first softening usually shows around day three or four, and the full effect settles by about two weeks. That is when we would review it, not the day after.

Small bumps at the injection points settle within an hour. Bruising is possible but uncommon. Most clients return to work straight from the appointment, which is part of why the 30-minute slot suits Midtown schedules.

Common Questions

Botox, answered honestly

How much does Botox cost in NYC?

Botox is charged by the unit, and how many units you need depends on the areas treated and how strong those muscles are. We price at consultation for that reason. You are given the exact unit count and the total before anything is injected, and you can reduce the areas or decline entirely at that point.

How long does Botox last?

Typically three to four months, though it varies with dose, area and individual metabolism. Stronger muscles and higher activity tend to shorten it. Most clients settle into a rhythm of three visits a year once they know how their own face responds.

How long before I see results?

Nothing on the day. The first softening usually appears around day three or four, with the full effect settled by about two weeks. Any review or top-up is done at the two-week mark, not before.

Will I look frozen?

Only if you are overdosed. Conservative placement softens lines while leaving expression intact. Tell your practitioner at the assessment how much movement you want to keep, and the dose is planned around that rather than around a standard template.

Does it hurt?

The needles are very fine and most people describe a brief pinch at each point. The whole injection phase takes only a few minutes. No numbing is usually needed.

What is the downtime?

Practically none. Small bumps at the injection sites settle within an hour. Stay upright for four hours, avoid rubbing the treated area, and skip heavy exercise and saunas until the next day. Most clients go straight back to work.

Can Botox fix the lines I have when my face is still?

Not usually. Botox works on lines caused by movement. Lines already etched into the skin at rest need something that rebuilds the skin, such as RF microneedling with PRP, or in some cases filler. We will tell you which applies at the assessment.

Who administers the treatment?

Injectables are administered by a registered nurse under medical direction. Your suitability is assessed before treatment, and certain conditions and medications rule it out.
