Non-surgical hair supportPRP Hair Restoration in Manhattan, NYC
$799 60 Minutes
PRP hair restoration in NYC uses platelets from your own blood, injected into the scalp to support weakening follicles and thinner hair. A small sample is drawn and spun here in the clinic. It is taken as a course of three, because hair grows in cycles and change takes months, not days.
Medical treatment provided by Michael Meighen, MD, NY, PLLC, a professional practice owned by licensed physicians.
What It Is
Scalp PRP: treating the follicle, not the hair
Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is made by spinning a small sample of your blood so the platelets are concentrated into a small amount of plasma. That concentrate is injected into the thinning areas of your scalp.
The aim is to support follicles that are still there, not to replace ones that are gone. It works best on miniaturising follicles, where hair is still growing but coming through finer, shorter or lighter. Follicles that have been dormant for years have much less to respond with.
There are no incisions or grafts, and no recovery beyond a tender scalp for a day. Like every treatment at Skin Lab Clinic, it starts with an honest assessment of whether it can help you.
How scalp PRP compares
| Option | What it is | Downtime | At Skin Lab | Often chosen for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Scalp PRP | Your own platelets injected into the scalp | Tender scalp for about a day | $799, or 3 for $1,999 | Early to moderate thinning |
| Hair transplant | Surgical move of follicles to thinning areas | Longer, surgical recovery | Not offered | Areas that are already bald |
| Prescription treatment | Medication prescribed by your doctor | None | Not offered | Ongoing daily management |
Many people use PRP alongside treatment from their own doctor. Tell us what you already use at your assessment.
What It Treats
Hair loss that PRP can support
PRP suits hair that is thinning but still growing. These are the patterns we see most often in clinic.
A widening part
More scalp showing along the part line, often the first sign people notice in the mirror.
Crown thinning
Hair thinning at the back and top of the head, where follicles are weakening but still active.
Temple thinning
Early recession or thinning at the temples that has not yet become fully bare.
Post-partum shedding
Shedding after pregnancy that has not fully recovered on its own.
Stress-related shedding
Hair loss after a stressful period, once any medical cause has been ruled out.
Finer, weaker hair
Hair that still grows but comes through thinner and lighter than it used to.
Results vary and regrowth cannot be guaranteed. If your hair loss needs a dermatologist or a medical workup, we will tell you at the assessment.
Your Appointment
What happens in your 60 minutes
The Practice's licensed provider examines your scalp, takes your history and photographs the thinning areas so progress can be measured.
A small sample is taken, much like a routine blood test, and processed here in the clinic while you wait.
The concentrate is injected in a grid across the thinning areas, with numbing. Expect brief pressure and stinging.
Your scalp may be tender for a day. The next session is booked four to six weeks later.
Good to know before you book
- Come with clean, dry hair and no styling products
- Eat and drink water beforehand; it makes the draw easier
- Your blood is processed and used the same day, nothing is stored
- Photos are taken at every visit so you can see real change
- Tell us about any medication or supplements you take
If PRP is not likely to help your type of hair loss, we tell you before taking any blood.
The Course and Timeline
What to expect, month by month
Hair grows in cycles, so this treatment is slow by nature. The standard course is three sessions, four to six weeks apart, with photos at every visit.
Baseline photos and scalp mapping. Nothing visible is expected yet.
Less shedding is usually the first change people notice. New growth, where it happens, starts showing from about three months.
Results are judged against your baseline photos, and maintenance spacing is set from what the images show.
Is It Right For You
Who PRP for hair loss suits, and who it will not help
If you are not sure what is causing your thinning, a $150 consultation covers hair and scalp concerns and is applied to same-day treatment.
Usually a good fit
- Early to moderate thinning, a widening part, or crown and temple thinning
- Hair that is finer but still growing
- Post-partum or stress shedding that has not fully recovered
- You want a non-surgical option before considering a transplant
- You can commit to three sessions plus maintenance
Usually not the answer
- Areas that have been bald for several years
- Hair loss from an untreated medical or thyroid condition
- Blood or clotting disorders, or taking blood thinners
- You want guaranteed regrowth or a single visit
Recovery
The day after is usually ordinary
There is very little downtime. Most people go back to work the same day.
Tenderness and possibly small bumps where the injections went in. Do not wash your hair that day.
Tenderness settles within about 24 hours. Wash gently and carry on as normal.
Your next session, with new photos to compare against your baseline.
Aftercare that actually matters
Skip saunas, steam rooms and heavy exercise on the day of treatment. Ask us before colouring or any chemical treatment on your hair in the days after a session.
Keep taking any treatment your own doctor has prescribed unless they tell you otherwise. Call us if anything feels unusual; we would rather hear about it early.

Common Questions
Scalp PRP, answered honestly
Does scalp PRP actually regrow hair?
It can support follicles that are still active, and reduced shedding is often the first change. It does not regrow hair in areas that have been bald for years, and we do not promise regrowth to anyone.
How much does PRP hair restoration cost in NYC?
$799 per session at Skin Lab, or $1,999 for a course of three, which saves $398. Each appointment is 60 minutes.
How many sessions will I need?
Three to start, four to six weeks apart. After that, maintenance sessions are usually needed to hold results, with spacing set from your progress photos.
When will I see results?
Not in the first month. Less shedding usually comes first, new growth where it happens shows from about three months, and results are judged at six months against your baseline photos.
Does it hurt?
The injections are felt. Numbing is used, and most people describe brief stinging and pressure. The scalp can stay tender for about a day.
What is the downtime?
Minimal. Expect tenderness and possibly small bumps for around 24 hours. Avoid washing your hair, saunas and heavy exercise on the day of treatment.
Can women have PRP for hair loss?
Yes. Female pattern thinning, a widening part and post-partum shedding are some of the most common reasons women book with us.
Who performs the treatment?
Performed by a licensed provider of Michael Meighen, MD, NY, PLLC, the professional practice that provides medical treatments at Skin Lab. Blood is drawn and processed here in the clinic.
