Treatment, not a facial

Glass Skin Microneedling in Manhattan, NYC

$299 60 Minutes

Glass Skin Microneedling is our 60-minute microneedling in NYC for acne scarring, enlarged pores and uneven texture. Fine, controlled needling works below the surface, where new collagen is built, so it reaches what a glass skin treatment at the surface cannot. The smooth finish comes from your own skin rebuilding over the weeks that follow.

Medical treatment provided by Michael Meighen, MD, NY, PLLC, a professional practice owned by licensed physicians.

What It Is

What glass skin microneedling actually does

Microneedling, also called collagen induction therapy, uses fine needles to make thousands of controlled micro-channels in the skin. The skin treats each channel as a small injury and repairs it with new collagen and elastin. Studies going back to Aust and colleagues in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (2008) documented thicker, better organised collagen after a course of treatments.

Needle depth is set for each area at your assessment, so the work happens in the layer where collagen is made rather than on the surface. That is why it improves indented acne scarring and pore size, two things no facial can change.

This is a treatment, not a facial. There is no cleanse ritual, mask or massage. If you want the glow-and-go experience, our Glass Skin Medical Facial is the one to book. Many clients alternate the two.

What It Treats

Concerns microneedling works on

Needle depth is set at your assessment for the concern that brought you in. These are the six we see most often in the treatment room.

01

Microneedling for acne scars

Indented and rolling scars respond to collagen remodelling in a way no surface treatment matches. Ice-pick scars usually need more than one course.

02

Enlarged pores

Firmer tissue around each pore makes it look smaller, most noticeably across the nose and cheeks.

03

Fine lines

New collagen softens early lines around the eyes, mouth and forehead without freezing movement.

04

Early loss of firmness

Skin along the jawline and lower face that has started to soften gains some firmness over a course.

05

Uneven texture

Roughness and an irregular surface even out as the skin rebuilds over the following weeks.

06

Dullness

Fresh collagen and faster cell turnover leave skin brighter once the first redness settles.

Results vary from person to person. Scarring usually needs a course of three rather than a single session, and you will hear that at the assessment, not after.

Inside the Appointment

What happens in your 60 minutes

01
Assessment and consent

The Practice's licensed provider examines your skin, confirms the areas to treat and goes through what to expect. Needle depth is chosen here, not from a script.

02
Cleanse and numbing

The skin is cleansed and a topical numbing cream is applied. It needs time to work properly, which is part of why the appointment is a full hour.

03
The treatment pass

The pen moves across each area in sections. You feel pressure and a light scratching rather than sharpness. Most people call it tolerable, not painful.

04
Calm and protect

A soothing serum, barrier support and SPF go on, and you leave with written aftercare for the next 48 hours.

Good to know before you book

  • Treatment only. No cleanse ritual, mask or massage stage
  • Topical numbing is included and applied before the pass begins
  • Expect mild redness and some swelling for one to two days
  • Most concerns need three sessions, four to six weeks apart
  • Deeper remodelling is available as microneedling with PRP
  • Not suitable during active breakouts or infection in the area

If your skin is not in the right condition on the day, we reschedule rather than treat. That call is made at the assessment.

Is It Right For You

Who books microneedling, and who should wait

Good candidates usually recognise themselves in the first list. If you are in the second, a $150 consultation is the better first step.

You are likely a good fit if

  • You have acne scarring that facials and peels have not improved
  • Pores across the nose and cheeks look larger than they used to
  • Texture is uneven or makeup sits roughly on the skin
  • You want gradual, natural-looking change rather than a one-day fix
  • You can book a week before anything important

Wait, or ask first, if

  • You have active acne, cold sores or an infection in the treatment area
  • You are pregnant or breastfeeding
  • You are on isotretinoin or have used it in the last six months
  • You have a history of keloid scarring

Recovery

What the next few days look like

This treatment carries more downtime than a facial, but it is short and predictable. Here is the honest timeline.

1
Day of treatment

Skin looks flushed, like mild sunburn, and feels warm and tight. Keep it clean and let it be.

2
Day one to two

Redness fades and swelling settles. Most clients are comfortable in makeup by day two.

3
Day three to seven

Some dryness and light flaking as the surface turns over. Do not pick or exfoliate.

4
Week four onwards

Collagen remodelling continues quietly. This is when texture and scarring start to look different.

Aftercare that actually matters

No saunas, steam rooms, hot workouts or swimming for 48 hours. No retinol, acids or vitamin C for five days. Daily SPF is not optional after this treatment; new collagen is sun-sensitive. In July and August, when Midtown sidewalks are at their hottest, we suggest booking so the first two days fall on days you can stay mostly indoors.

Call us if anything feels wrong. We would rather hear about it on day one than day five.

Honestly, the best experience I've had getting a facial! Everything was super clean and soothing. I fell asleep twice lol. I got the Glass skin facial and by the time she was done it looked like I had a brand new face! I highly recommend. Also, Julia was super professional and sweet!

Common Questions

Microneedling, answered honestly

Does microneedling hurt?

Not much once the numbing cream has worked. Most clients describe pressure and a light scratching rather than pain, with the forehead and jaw felt most. Numbing is applied before the pass and you can ask us to pause at any point.

How many sessions will I need?

Three sessions spaced four to six weeks apart suits most concerns, and acne scarring in particular. Some people see enough from one. The Practice's licensed provider gives you a real number at the assessment rather than selling a fixed package.

How long is the downtime?

One to two days. Expect redness like mild sunburn on the day, fading over the next day or two, with some swelling possible. Most clients are comfortable in makeup by day two. Plan the treatment at least a week before anything important.

When will I see results?

Surface brightness shows within a week. The real change is collagen remodelling, which is gradual, so texture and scarring keep improving for several weeks after each session. Judge it at four weeks, not four days.

What is the difference between this and microneedling with PRP?

The needling is the same. Microneedling with PRP at $799 adds platelet-rich plasma drawn from your own blood, which supports healing and pushes remodelling further. This treatment at $299 is the needling on its own, which is enough for most texture and pore concerns.

Can I combine it with a facial?

Not in the same appointment, because the skin needs to settle first. Many clients book a Glass Skin Medical Facial in the weeks between sessions, which works well.

Is microneedling safe for darker skin tones?

Yes, and it is generally better tolerated across skin tones than light-based devices because it does not target pigment. Depth is still adjusted at the assessment, and daily SPF afterwards matters more, not less.

Who performs the treatment?

Performed by a licensed provider of Michael Meighen, MD, NY, PLLC, the professional practice that provides medical treatments at Skin Lab. Every appointment starts with an assessment. If the treatment is not appropriate for your skin on the day, we reschedule rather than proceed.
